Dining along Orchard Road

I have been updating diligently, clearing all my backlogs. Today shall blogged about the restaurants I visited in May along Orchard road, specifically Somerset to Douby Ghout.

Kilo At Pact

Weeks ago, I finally met up with my darling girls for dinner after their final exam! Yayyy they are all done with school, after more than a decade of education, welcome to the workforce! Anyway, my colleague recommended me to kilo at pact and asked me to try the Vietnamese roll. In her opinion it is much better than nam nam's. So we decided to dine at Kilo At Pact. It is a boutique, hair salon and a cafe. I have heard really good reviews about their food and happy to know that they serve fusion cuisine. But I was slightly disappointed when there wasn't much variety for me to pick on their dinner menu.

I think they have a pretty well designed interior concept to hold all three collaboration together.

All three of us decided to have pasta. I think we are used to dining at italian restaurants and having pasta.

First up, mentaiko pasta. The best mentaiko pasta I ever had was from Five and Dime, this is pale in comparison and not creamy at all.

Geraldine's order was Seafood Squid Ink Fettucini. I like the fried squid but it was cold when I tasted and slightly soggy. We couldn't really taste the squid ink and it kinda stained our lips really badly. Please do not order this dish if you out for an important date.

Ebiko pasta with prawns, which is somewhat similar to mentaiko but is creamier & tastier. But I still find it slightly salty for my liking. The generous amount of prawns help to make up the saltiness.

The little glass house is the entrance to the hair salon. Initially, I was wondering why was there so much noise pollution in the background and when I toured around, I realized there was a salon behind and they were using the hair dryer.

Overall we were disappointed as I was expecting very yummy food with all the good reviews going around. Well I think we might have ordered the wrong dish. My friend commented on my IG that their sushi and pork belly was really good. Oh well, till the next time.

My darlings for life!

Dolce Tokyo

They say we always have a compartment for dessert. We were not very satisfied over dinner and decided to locate ourselves at another dessert place to avoid being disappointed again. Took us forever to decide our dessert spot. Either we wasn't very impressed by the selection offered or the place we wanted to go closed down. Finally I suggested to go Dolce Tokyo, since Japanese dessert cannot fail us, right?

I was busy snapping pictures around and I saw the last slice of red velvet cake sitting at the desser counter. It was hugeeee and shocked that it cost $9 per slice.

I hurried went back and told the girls about the cake. I think because it was the last slice so I kiasuly told them to hurry order.

Indeed, this $9 huge slice of red velvet cake is the best red velvet cake I ever had. Those who doesn't like the coconut shavings can just remove them. What I love about this cake is the soft and moist sponge with the perfect amount of cream. I don't usually craves for cakes especially sponge, but this sexy did made an important presence in my heart now. I would say totally worth our $9 but do remember to share your love before you finish all.

We also ordered the match sundae that was served with Vanilla soft serve ice-cream. I don't really like the icey ice-cream especially match flavor served here. One of the better ice-cream stall that serves thick and rich green tea ice-cream is Hokkaido ice cream- Azabu Sabo. I thought the soft serve ice-cream was pretty good thou.

NamNam Noodle Bar

NamNam Noodle Bar has expanded with a new outlet at Plaza Singapura-new wing, replacing Cedele.

Since it's opening in May, I patronize 3 times within the first 2 weeks. Definitely have to queue during the peak lunch hours but it is not insanely long like how Tim Ho Wan started. Even though I have been eating here quite often, but I am not exactly a fan of it. Well, maybe I was a little excited on my first visit because I have been wanting to try but haven't got the chance to until now.

The first time I visited, I ordered the pho set lunch menu for $9.90. It comes with my chicken pho, salad and a drink.

Salad of crunchy pickled vegetables, fish cake, pork belly and peanuts. Sounds like a pretty good mix of everything. The first time I had it, I like it very much. Crunchy, chewy, sweet, sour all in one mouth. But the second time I had it, I was disappointed, seems like they have inconsistent standard?

Vietnamese prawn roll- Fresh southern rolls with prawn, fresh herbs and peanut sauce. The wrap was plasticky and difficult to chew on and it was a little dry with too much noodle filling stuffed. The peanut sauce adds more flavour to it and is the key sauce to go with.

My chicken pho, is plain and slightly blend for me. Nothing impressive and I didn't get hooked into Vietnamnese cusine. Oh and I ordered lotus tea whic was served last(I thought drink should be the first to be served) and tasted horrible, I only took two sips, the second sip was to reaffirm myself that the drink was really awful. I don't know how to describe the taste, but I thought lotus soup suppose to taste sweet.

On my second visit, I decided to have sandwhich instead- Bahn Mi. I ordered the sautéed lemon grass pork, cream cheese for $6.90. This was a lot more flavourful than the pho I had previously. And surprisely, I am satisfied and full with one sandwhich only.

I tried Quang style egg noodle with fresh egg noodles, pork ribs, prawn, squid ball, fish ball, rice cracker, chopped herbs for $10.90 This noodle was better than my pho. I like it when there's a lot of ingredient/food in front of me. I like the freshness of their Quang style egg noodle, very light and bouncy. I am not a fan of yellow noodle, usually used for laksa which has a thick flour taste so the unique Quang style egg noodle was quite to my liking.

I find it difficult to find a new place to dine in these area because it is so near my work place and I have tried most of the restaurants here. But recently there's a new boutique cafe in Cathay, The Assembly Cafe. It is not affiliated  to The Assembly @ Evans Lodge though. Shall visit them soon.
