Southwest Tavern | Dinner + Stirling Highway | Brunch

Ever since I started working, I really cherish my weekends and will have a line up a of activities planned. Mostly are lunch/dinner date with my friends to catch up. Also, ever since I decided to start blogging again, I give myself an excuse to go around Singapore for cafe visiting. It is definitely not good for my pocket, I think I might be able to save at least a hundred or more if I stop all the cafes and dining out.  But life's too short to scrimp and save and since I find joy in eating, I am not going to shortchange myself. Lucky you people, I will be sharing more on this space:)

Last sat evening was a belated dinner with Lionel our jiemei. The girls plus Lionel are mugging for their last examinations. They took a early break from studying to meet up with the rest for a nice dinner at Southwest Tavern.

Pink guava on the left and chocolate on the right.

Pardon for the blur image. I am still figuring out which night mode works best.

So this is the reason why we came here for- their famous beer butt chicken that requires an hr advance order. When Bei told us about it, I literally thought we are going to have chicken butt. Half correct because they stuffed the beer can into the chicken butt. Haha so the chicken will be marinated with the beer. The beer taste wasn't very strong and didn't leave a impression on me.

With every Main's, we get to choose two sides. Weiru ordered Rosemary lamb chop and her sides are cow pie mashed potato and corny corns.

Bei and susu shared a ribeye steak with fries and Corny corns. They had it done medium rare and I think it was grilled to their liking. It looks really good with the chunky meat even thou I can't eat it.

My order was blacken dory fish with thick wedges and corny corn. I am a tar-tar sauce lover so fish with their tar-tar-ish sauce is yummy to me. Blacken dory fish is actually dory seasoned with black pepper sauce.I feel that the pepper sauce is too overpowering so I had to depend on the tar-tar sauce to camouflage it. I think everyone ordered corns as their sides and it was sweet and juicy, love it!
Booming' Onion was our sides to share. I love fried food and am a onion ring fan. This plate of onion rings reminds me of the golden pillow, don't ask me why I feel this way. Unlike the usual onion rings, I like the fact the onion was not fried with potato and the dips for the onion rings appeals to me.

Aik's small bacon wrapped tenderloin (200g) with fries and corny corn again.

Alvin's Cheese burger with fries. For burgers, you only get fries as sides, but I think they are flexible if you want to change it to something else. Look at the melted cheese...

I would be this happy too if I have melted cheese fish burger.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, HUGE!! Challenge to squeeze the burger into his mouth!

The weather was scorchingly hot and I am not sure if walking all the way from the main road is a sane choice. I would probably had melted if I did so. I think it should be at least a good 15-20mins walk in from Ulu pandan main road. Sadly to add on, one of the AC was spoilt and so the original place we were seating was quite stuffy. It was rather uncomfortable until we got saved when the table beside us left and we shifted nearer to the working AC.
If you take bus the bus 92 from Buona Vista , it will be a shorter walk in. Head over to their website for directions.

Lunch was served after a good half an hour wait. First up, pulled pork pancakes. A wasn't particularly impressed by this breakfast but we all agreed that this is the better dish we had amongst the rest that we had ordered. Their pancakes are super moist(not fluffy) with the pulled pork in between the pancakes. Quite generous amount of pork in between the layers with the savoury dip on the side. Maple syrup was also served but it was really watery and diluted.

This is their signature dish and the reason I came here for- Prawn Pesto Spaghetti. I am becoming a fan of pesto. If you get the chance to, go try Pesto pasta from Sumo Salad or the pesto char-grilled chicken from Plaza Singapura basement. They are both very yummy especially the pesto burger. Sadly, we were all disappointed by this dish because it was rather blend, maybe some Tobasco can help but they didn't have it in store. Looked so pretty with the baked cherry tomatoes & green pesto, a pity though it doesn't taste as good.

Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. This would be my usual order but I decided to try other stuff this time round. My friend ordered this and she didn't quite like it, the hollandaise sauce was too rich and could be a little gelat for some. My friend commented that the bread was really soggy even before soaking the bread in the sauce. The smoked salmon wasn't particularly fresh either which left her disappointed leaving the cafe.

What's on the table:

Strawberry shortcake! I am not a fan of sponge cake but I love strawberry shortcake and I don't mind the calories in between the layers. Sadly their sponge card wasn't moist and fluffy, it was dryyyy and disappointing. Well at least they got the presentation right.

Nice chalk board as our photo background.

With Pretty Hannie who had to work on a Sunday morning:(

#Ootd of the day, had to cropped off my feet because I changed out to a pair of hideous slipper that were too big for me. Lovely bright orange top from love bonito and the skirt I got from Hong Kong but it has the same print as Love bonito Sandro skirt.

Some snippets from Electric run SG. I managed to win the Nuffnangsg Instagram competition by tagging a friend and comment on their post. Lucky me and lovethekisses won ourselves a pair of tix!

And the best part was Jo and Bev managed to win tickets from Lush 99.5 Fm so all 6 of us managed to take part together! Well I think is more of a fun race that a real marathon and I will like to join a real marathon this year! Challenge accepted.

XOXO,
