The Cathay Cafes: The Assembly Ground & Concetto By Saveur

I rarely visit the restaurants or cafes in cathay even though I work just next to it. One thing for sure is because they are too over budget for lunch, it just took me a while to finally try the cafes there.

The Assembly Ground is an extension from the Assembly Store offering international multi-label fashion and lifestyle brands. Initially I mistaken it as a new branch of Assembly Coffee cafe which serves awesome waffles. The Assembly Ground is a hipster cafe with bicycles hanging on the walls a replica of a warehouse feel. It is pretty spacious seating that gives diner some personal space.

Drink good coffee everyday, yes I have heard that they serve really good coffee. I have yet to learn to appreciate coffee because I can't really take the bitterness of coffee and if I drink latte or mocha, I get lactose intolerance, apparently only applicable to coffee(or skimmed milk) and not the usual fresh milk.

Ohhh I love the Truffle mushroom soup (S$9.50), anything with a dash of truffle oil really helps to make it more flavorful.

Caesar Salad for the healthy diet

Straight Cut Truffle Fries(S$10)- Immense with just right amount of truffle, even though sometimes its a hit and miss pick.

Popcorn Chicken with Spicy Mayo(S$9) - Unlike the crispy popcorn chicken from KFC, The Assembly Ground serves well marinated chicken  and I love the spicy mayo that comes along.

Mac & Cheese (S$12)

Banana Chocolate Smoothie (S$8)

Rosti Omelette (S$14.50)-  I wouldn't recommend the rosti, they were too oily. The only place that serves good or decent rosti is perhaps Marche IMO.

Coney Dog (S$15)-  My colleagues enjoyed their coney dogs, like watching a baseball match and holding your coney dog in one hand.

Moroccan baked eggs (S$15.50)- Something more unique and less mainstream. I am not a fan of tomato based pasta but it reminded me of the baked eggs from Hardware Societe(Melbourne) which was really awesome.

Roast Beef Sandwich (S$16)- All sandwiches are served with Salad and Parmesan fries.

The Assembly Brunch (S$19) - The heartiest amongst all, I was actually drawn to the smoked salmon on its description. Scrambled egg were a little disappointing, but it was still good because I am a suckerfor potato, this gratin potato kills the rosti hands down.

Iced green tea latte(S$6.50) with a scoop of ice cream, good latte, thumbs up!

Knowing that I am a cafe lover, my colleagues are so kind to arrange my birthday lunch at The Assembly Ground. And I may have hinted my colleague about the baby curl product and so I got my own version of 'Baby curl 'creatively packaged.

PS: My visit was back in August and it took me forever to post, I am sorry. They may have updated with a revised menu.

Concetto by Saver

Concetto is a casual Italian  restaurant situataed at Cathay. It replaced the old school Billy Bombers which served that all time fav american diner must have- milkshake. Anyways, same as Saveur, they strive to serve affordable and pretty decent french/italian cuisine. Saveur is well-liked by many and often you will see long queues at purvis street when they first started out. Before I went, I have heard that Concetto is slightly pale in comparison to the sister restaurant. Indeed, with fairly limited options on the menu even though it has pocket friendly price the portion is really mini, tasting portion.

Minestrone Soup (S$5.90)

Crab Risotto (S$12.90)- Creamy and strong crab (Seafood) taste, it was a little salty for my taste bud and gelat, glad that I shared with my friend.

Duck Tortellini (S$11.90)- Well presented with only four pieces with a poached egg, The small portion is really a major drawback.

Their desserts redeemed the meal of unsatisfying hunger and expectations.
Pistachio Panna Cotta (S$66.90) - Glad that they maintatined the standards of their desserts. I would like to give their Tiramisu a try since that's the basic Italian dessert.
