Serangoon hidden cafes: Rokerby + The Coffee Daily

I have been living in Serangoon estate my whole life and often had meaningless arguments with most of my close friends who stayed in the West (most of the time is with Alvin) about whose estates are better. Serangoon definitely has more food spots. We have Chomp Chomp, (more) cafes and supper places.

Is funny how I don't visit these cafes in my area often, thinking that I always have a chance to visit them since they are so near my place. Rokeby cafe is one of them. It is situated along the row of street shops at Jalan Riang. Just a few doors away from the famous dessert cafe- Wimbly Lu and Cajun King.

Rokeby runs as a cafe in the day and bistro bar at night. I visited sometime ago for brunch and had fruits and Nutella waffle the other time. Read good reviews on their coffee with their coffee beans specially imported from Aussie. Came back again to try their dinner menu.

Cabonara which was pretty thick and creamy with quite generous bacons. But my favorite Cabonara will still be Pepperoni.

An extremely small portion of salad for about $9, way too much I would pay for such a small portion of salad. My attempt to include more greens in my meal. Actually I seldom dislike any food, and I eat almost all greens, like bitter gourd, lady fingers and even celery. So it really isn't difficult to eat clean but I am just weak to resist temptations.

Fish n Chips topped up to truffle fries. Have been eating truffle fries but I realized the smell is always stronger than the taste. So far only Habitat Coffee and Little Diner(freshly sliced) truffle fries have impressed me(Maybe Au Chocolat, been sometime since my last visit). Not even P.S. Cafe, they are good but their truffle taste could be stronger.

I don't think their food is very yummy but one think I like is the good service we received. Very attentive servers and particularly there's this girl who will checked on her diners at the end of their meal. I find it  hard to tell them their food wasn't very impressive when she greeted us so warmly. But anyway, all these opinions are subjective,

A pretty hidden cafe along Brighton Crescent, very near to Serangoon Garden estate serving all day breakfast. There wasn't much crowd on a weekend morning so it was nice that I could enjoy some peacefulness and chill with my darlings.

Their signature rainbow cake which cost S$10, nope we didn't get it. I am thinking perhaps thats left over from the previous day, can't possibly be the only piece left early in the morning. But I heard good reviews about the cake.

Quite an extensive dessert counter for a small cafe with lots of different beers to offer.

Very homely, old school deco with a flowery sofa and guitar at the side.

A collection of beer bottles as deco.

There were only 4 brunch set on the menu, which includes a breakfast set and an Americano. I requested to top up to a Matcha Latte because I can't take bitter coffee. This Matcha latte is pretty sweet even without adding any sugar, can't really taste the latte which is a good thing for me but not so sure for coffee lovers.

I ordered Set B which includes: Smoked salmon with scrambled egg served with croissant and greens. Love the cheese spread on my croissant. Lucky that I am a cheese lover because last saturday I had late lunch with my dance friend & instructor. Happened that both of them really dislike cheese and mayo and they got really upset when they saw those two condiments on their plate. So I am thinking it is always always good to list down whatever that ingredients/sauces going on the serving plate or kindly remind the person who is taking the order to check with their diners if there are any special request. That extra mile does help to make a difference in our dining experience.

I really liked the dressing that came along with my smoked salmon and my scrambled egg was not overly fluffy. I was just slightly disappointed to see that part of my croissant overly toasted. So black!!! I asked one of the server if it was suppose to be so black and he replied 'yah' without even thinking. Arghh, I think it is perfectly to have toasted crispy croissant, slight burnt but not black. I am just disappointed with that particular server whom answered me. Generally I am not very picky with my food and I will finish all of it unless it is really horrible. Hueymin was very nice to volunteer to exchange my croissant with hers because she thinks it is crispier and nicer.

Huey Min & G's order: Set A, Sausage, ham, and bacon with scrambled egg. Also comes with croissant and greens. Super sumptuous and cost the same as mine. Even their croissant is so much bigger, jealous that my portion is so much smaller so I kept stealing their food and helped them finished it.

At the end of the meal, the girl who cleared our plates asked how do we like our food. To be honest,  the food is not bad but I did not feedback to her about the croissant. I think I should learn to feedback courteously next time if I do encounter such incidents again.
